to earn a degree being forced to sit out a year as a transfer is a benefit to the player. Not only does it give them a transition year to work on individual development, but more importantly it gives them 5 seasons on scholarship with which to complete a degree rather than 4. I would bet transfers graduate with a degree at a much higher rate in men's basketball than non-transfers. Ross, Bell, Oriakhi, Clarkson, Bello, etc all left MU with a degree before their playing days were over. Whereas guys with only 4 seasons on scholarship often times finish up being on scholarship short of earning a degree.
