Pinkel.
We had lost 13 straight games against North competition. We had lost consecutive seasons to KU and Iowa State of all programs.
We were losing to K-State 66-0. Nebraska and Colorado were beating our brains in.
On top of that, we had two previous decades of miserable 3-win seasons, empty crowds, zero games on TV, nearly zero coverage in the Post-Dispatch. No enthusiasm. No fan base.
Larry Smith made things palpable for 1.5 years, and then went right back into the tank, and we were as bad or worse than when he arrived.
Pinkel not only raised us to a profile that was almost on course with the traditional national powers like Oklahoma. But under him, we had surpassed Nebraska, Texas, Notre Dame and other blue bloods like that. We had far more success and seasons of national prominence than those schools did from 2007 - 2014.
And he did it with no school history, no money, no resources, no fan base, no talent base, no recruiting base.
Yes, build a damn statue.
And build it so big, that he will finally get the recognized by a no-thanks fanbase that doesn't appreciate any of the amazing things that he accomplished.
