place total confidence in ranking of high school kids but obviously 5 star kids usually have more talent than 3 star kids. And I know we have all heard of 5 star busts and 3 star guys that are extremely productive college players that may even land in the NBA. One thing that has changed in evaluating talent in recent years is how the top players play so many games against each other in AAU and camps. Scouts see them in competitive games against each other. The other situation where a 3 star is recruited would be where CM sees a kid he feels is underrated and/or might fit perfectly within his plan. The other perspective to consider is whether it is better to have slightly lower level talent that stays 3 or 4 years instead of being one and done.
