for some reason a lot of midwestern (or non-coastal) universities comparable to ours had similar declines in the rankings (e.g. 80's to 100's), including several AAU universities. I can't find the notes I made at the time, but look at Arizona as an example. I think Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado all fell from 80s to 100s as well, although Colorado may have rebounded since then. There were a couple years with major fluctuations in the rankings, which probably corresponded to a change in their ranking methodology.
I'm not trying to make excuses though. Our admin has definitely been incompetent. Hopefully the new leadership can effect some positive change.
