Again, I said the distinction was subtle. A young man who steps up to put his life on the line for an IDEAL, for his country is distinct - in my mind - from one who sees that he has not employment options and as the military is hiring, signs on for the paycheck. The distinction comes in the motivating factor. In the first case it is to SERVE his country and in the second to serve himself.
THUS on this day of memorializing those who willingly sacrificed their lives for their nation, I hold in higher thus whose motivation was in fact service to a greater cause than him or her self.
