states. Virginia is the only one that doesn't use slavery as the reason. VA's reason is that they didn't want to fight in a war against their southern brothers but rather with them. The rest featured the preservation and interests of slavery foremost in their declarations. The first state to secede's declared the interests of slavery as their only reason.
