That's why it's not a good idea to use water to cool your engine in the winter. If it freezes it cracks the engine block or at least blows out the freeze plugs.

So the volume of sea ice does not increase the volume of water when it melts. If your ice cubes are above the rim it still doesn't overflow for that reason.

And you think you know science. Hah!
