Could have blown the game open in the first inning and pushed across 5-6 runs, and that likely would have won the game against an LSU offense that often struggles to score. Softball is a game of inches at the highest level, one team gets just one hit and the other team doesn't and that's the ballgame. Like I said if we don't make it we have no one to blame but ourselves. Even with all the flaws on this team and the weak overall pitching situation as compared to, well, every other SEC team, we have enough talent to have a winning record, but may not, which would be a shocking end to the season. We have blown chance after chance against good and mediocre and bad teams, sometimes it's pitching, sometimes shoddy fielding, sometimes anemic hitting, but the result is we may not even finish with a .500 record, in which case we deserve what we get, and on to next season, where this team will look dramatically different.
Maybe I'm overstating it, but I see 2 players who are guaranteed to be the best at their positions and are locks to start next year, Sanchez and Burnside. That's it. I think Nash and Pierce and Romaine are good players but are not locks to start and will have to earn their positions over the deepest and most talented group of freshmen EE has ever recruited. Yes Garrison and Kessinger have a lot of potential, but will need to improve significantly to get a lot of playing time next year.
