this week, down from 28 last week. Since checking in at #44 in the initial rankings we have been at: 44, 36, 25, 26, 28, 31.
Our winning percentage, which makes up 25% of our RPI score, dropped from .571 to .563 by going 3-3 last week. And our playing #17 RPI Kentucky 3 games was more than offset by playing 3 games against SEMO and Omaha, who are awful teams with RPI ranks of 184 and 183.
I'm too lazy right now to look at the raw numbers and estimate the likelihood of that #31 ranking changing significantly or not the rest of the way; depends how bunched up our score is with the teams right in front and right behind us.
I guess the good news is we don't have any more RPI dogs left on our schedule; Wichita State who we play twice next week is at #72 this week, so playing them won't drag us down nearly as much as the SEMOs, Omahas, Western Illinois, and Iowas of the softball world. Our last two SEC opponents are LSU (13) and Ole Miss (27).
Gotta find a way to steal at least one game at LSU this weekend and break this slide and get some confidence back in this young, rattled team. If we are swept the pressure is going to be enormous in the last week of the regular season just to qualify for consideration as an at large selection, which will take 29 wins to meet the bare minimum. And there is no guarantee that a Mizzou team that finishes the regular season at 29-27 or 30-26 will even get selected. But at least we would qualify and even with a ton of losses we have way more signature wins than the other generally mediocre teams we would be measured against, and a far tougher SOS than most.
