A lot of top picks—even successful ones—take a few years before they start reeling in major endorsements.
If staying an extra season gives MPJ an opportunity to enjoy another year with family and also allows him to continue building his brand, yes, he'll be giving up a potential year of NBA earnings, but he might also make up for that by signing more and bigger non-basketball contracts right out of the gate. Best of both worlds.
