You're only factoring in his NBA salary.

NBA stars can make more per year in endorsement deals, and that money keeps coming in after they retire.

If staying an extra year makes Porter a bigger name, he can more quickly cash in on endorsements, and that can last a long time. The difference between playing for a fifth-place SEC team and one or two games in the NCAA tournament vs. winning a conference title, beating Kentucky in the process, and leading Mizzou to a national title could be huge in terms of off-court earnings out of the gate.
