does not matter to me if there is one or more certifying firms.

I would be ok with state boards from the standpoint of reviews..maybe you automatically get your "license" and you have to have continuing ed or something like that, but the biggest thing to me is an independent party that can be used to determine if you are no longer fit for practice...from my standpoint that being public or private does not matter...as if it is public, its funding can be covered through fees
