the Taliban in the sense that although they might not really like them they will follow whomever is in power. that's my takeaway of afghans.
i've told this story before but my team and I met with a former high level taliban commander one day and he flat out told us that he has been fighting since he was like 13 years old. first the soviets with the mujahadeen. then other afghans with the taliban. then the US with the taliban. until one day he looked around at the fighters next to him and realized that none of them were Afghan. they were Chechnyan, Saudi, Pakistani, Yemeni etc etc. that's also my experience. any combatants we captured were almost invariably Paki or Chechnyan. Almost NEVER were they actually Afghan.
