Despite government intrusion, markets have been freer than ever the last couple centuries, and with that, humans have experienced greater advancement in prosperity than over any prior interval of time.

Now, because humans are much more prosperous than ever before, some lazy people have started to think that work is not necessary and that prosperity just happens to exist in a finite pie that is being hoarded by a select few. Their solution is to use the agent that limits prosperity to get a piece of their perceived finite pie. Really, their motivation is that they do not like to work.
