We had a draft during Vietnam for many reasons

Tough to get 550,000 (1968) to go to Vietnam at one time without one. By my time it was 1/10 that and it was essentially over.

I think those of us who served were no than different than any other generation

We lost in Vietnam because the civilian leadership didn't care to win. That and the country as a whole turned its back on the war and those fighting it

That being said it was a waste of time, money and personnel
