Why did we have a draft during Vietnam?

Where the men back then cowards compared to the millenials of today?

We lost Vietnam with men who were forced to fight Vietnamese people. Now we've lost Iraq and Afghanistan with men who fight for money, do you think it's time we only go to war with countries who are a threat to us?
