I don't know the answer. People with addictive personalities ride a path to self destruction. The fact he ended up at a casino looking to win enough money to score his next drug purchase says it all.
But the battle for addiction starts somewhere. And then makes the next step looking for the next best/better high. And then the next. And the next.
Might as well just start right away with heroin and hope for an overdose and do society and himself a favor.
