One part told by a woman captured and taken to prison in Tehran. Other story about US forces in Iraq, how sleep deprivation by itself is exquisite torture - which is why it is outlawed in the US; described something called the "Palestinian chair" that is 2' high that one is attached to by zippers.
US forces before applying the device to prisoners tried it themselves, reported the pain was excruciating, but the real horror was not physical, but mental. US Forces knew they were to be released from the device in a matter of moments, the torture for prisoners is not knowing when it ends or what is to come. The woman in Iran - said she would have traded death instantly to be released.
Studies conducted in Canada, the Netherlands and extensively in the US found that torture destroys the brain, the very portion of the brain holding memories so that the victim physically cannot provide what the torturer requests. The woman in Iran said that she would say anything, just make it up, for the torture to end. The American who inflicted torture reported that while his victim had lost a good portion of his humanity - that was the point - so had he by inflicting it.
One technique the US used was to destroy the victim that there was little left of him, little capacity, and they would take him out and drop him on the street. If you fck with us - if you do not do as we say - this will be you. God Bless America.
