make the coach "whole" should he/she be fired without cause. Therefore, if the coach is able to find employment elsewhere and make as much or more, then there is no buyout paid at all. If the coach makes less, then the buyout is adjusted to be the difference, or the full amount if the coach remains unemployed for the remaining term of the contract.
That's why it's in almost every contract.
