Those lyrics have a different meaning than what the article is suggesting.
That's one of my favorite songs by Hillsong United.
"Keep my eyes above the waves, when Oceans rise"
That means when trials, tribulation, and temptation from the world come our way, we will stay focused on the Lord.
"Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, let me walk upon walk upon the waters, wherever you would lead me." - that means to have extreme trust and faith in Jesus no matter what and to go wherever the Holy Spirit leads you. Whether that is the Middle East to Evangelize or wherever.
The article does hit on a couple things that the church is neglecting, but overall it is spinning things.
Those social services that have been cut are good and representative to helping the poor, but they have gone too far. They have created a lazy sect in our society that just depend on them and no longer have a desire to go out and work for themselves. The Bible talks about how it is important to work. Ephesians 4:28, Proverbs 18:9, and 1st Timothy 5:8.
Then the article goes on to say reinforced misogyny.
Well, the Bible says women are supposed to be submissive to their husbands and also aren't supposed to speak in church. That is in 2nd Corinthians. My point is that you can spin scripture in any way but it only has one meaning. Case and point... Take the log out of your own eye before removing the splinter from your brothers. That means we first have to work on ourselves before we can help others. Shouldn't we be focusing on America's homeless and hungry first before we are equipped enough to help those outside the U.S?
Btw, there are tens of thousands of churches inside the United States doing mission work across the world!
This article is crap.
