work. But there is almost always a charitable component to missionary work.

My church has multiple groups that work with youth in the local schools and give thousands of dollars worth of supplies and coats each year. They also do youth outreach programs that include tutoring. We have a monthly community dinner and food give away. They also support numerous food pantries and community services organizations. I have participated more than once when the men's group has went out to the community to do home repairs for the poor or elderly.

Ours is just one of dozens of churches in town doing these activities on our own dime. That is a lot of charity for a relatively small church, around three hundred members.
