will be an early round pick. Frazier will play in the NFL. Logan will not, but has an SEC body and talent. Scherer is an SEC LB, no doubt. Newsome is an SEC LB, no doubt. Biesel played well after Scherer went out. Burkett was meh, but we've had plenty of Burkett-types over the years that were effective. Van Alexander comes to mind. We had Sherrils this year. We had Penton this year. The other safeties were a little weak, but I think that's more age and experience than talent. Youth at CB, too. All in all, the talent was there for this defensive unit to be above-average, which is all they needed to be.

And your point about the D2 kid is perhaps the exact reason it didn't work. My guess is that Shipp liked him for whatever reason and it didn't play out with the other guys. His snaps were reduced once Shipp was jettisoned and the DL played better.
