Quin was a swing for the fences hire-in retrospect, if he does pan out you very possibly end up losing that guy to a bigger program anyway, especially since he didn't fit from a culture standpoint. (and the new arena was not a done deal at the time). The rug would have been a better choice, part of Quin's problem was the lack of head coaching experience (I remember Quin asking to be called 'coach' his next to last year, no doubt he would have approached some things differently had Mizzou not been his first HC gig).
Alden should have gone after Lon Kruger in 2011, he would have been a great fit and provided a tremendous amount of stability IMO.
I think the Kim Anderson hire had everything to do with A) The impending NCAA issues and B) the fact Alden was going to resign. Anderson maybe works out and if he doesn't he's someone who is cheap, won't hurt the university and would be willing to try and guide the program through whatever the NCAA had in store. If he doesn't work out Alden's successor would (will) be able to replace him cheaper than anyone else they could have hired.
