Agree that Bello was worth the risk (even taking him from Baylor was worth a flyer). He probably would have been a decent player in Mike Anderson's system - big guard who could catch up on a press break. Would be good in the press. Still would have been awful in the half court offense though.
I don't know if it's that the kid didn't work hard - some guys just never "get" it. It's a big adjustment to go from being a high school player that's athletic as hell and can get by with zero tangible skill to going to P5 basketball against guys who can stop all of your unskilled athletic moves and having to basically re-learn the game. Look at Marshall Brown - he never got as good as his base physical skill could have been.
Barnett is likely somewhere in the middle between a non-factor and a difference maker. If I had to guess I'd say he will be somewhere around 8-10 PPG and ok but not great defensively.
