Someone is trying to essentially gain control of the leaders of the world.

Total control. With no question or doubt about total allegiance. Not even for one second.

This is, perhaps actually, selling ones' soul to the devil in exchange for power.

Why does understanding that matter? Because it opens minds that otherwise would be clamped shut from sheer incredulity.

And why does opening minds matter? Because with enough minds opening perhaps enough light gets shed on this area to get it moving, to get some sort of resolution.
