store i wished the manager a merry christmas and the owner a happy chanukah.
I wished hamid a merry christmas not knowing his religion and knowing that he thought it an act of kindness.
You have a point about presumptions.
I told of a jewish friend of mine who said that growing up he did feel a bit isolated by not being a christian when merry christmas was wished throughout the school. Point taken. And easily resolved with a study of chanukah and letting kids know that "we have a jew among us" j/k, and everyone being celebratory together.
And the jewish owner of the store said his wife converted to judiasm before they were married and it bothered him that many of her friends from her christian days still went out of their way to say merry christmas rather than happy chanukah. He thought it was spiteful.
JG may wish you happiness as a way to celebrate elvis' birthday. Thoughts of "what a dope" may be appropriate, but you were wished happiness.
Problem with that?
