can help maximize profit at times.
Discrimination does not have to be limited to the seven protected classes. A business can refuse to serve someone that's drunk, or someone that isn't wearing shoes, or for other reasons that deem reasonable.
An apartment complex would presumably maximize profit by having 100% occupancy. However, they may discriminate against those with poor credit scores because those applicants may be more likely to default payment on the lease. In this sense, by discriminating against those with poor credit scores, they find better tenants who are more likely to stay tenants and provide revenue.
There may be much better examples. However, it seems that all business discriminate in some way, but not necessarily against the seven protected classes. And they do it to maximize profit.
