Peter followed the plan also, but even in his despair kept his faith focused on Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice. Judas did not. It was not Judas betrayal that damned him. It was his rejection of saving faith in Christ Jesus.

Original sin is the need for salvation. We are born into a burning house for which there is no escape. Jesus Christ and Him alone has provided a path out of that burning house. To deny Him is to close off that path.
