He isn't equipped to withstand the physicality defensively. Its not due to a gambling style, he is simply undersized. Against major competition he was basically in foul trouble or fouled out of nearly every game last year (which is fine, he was a freshman and shouldn't have been put in that position).

I'm not saying he doesn't try hard or doesn't maximize his ability. But to be a high level team you ideally need a better defender at the point of attack and he is going to struggle to provide that. That isn't meant as a negative criticism, but in terms of solid starting pg's in the SEC he is going to be way down the list.
