I was also concerned about Walters leaving before the season was over. Like Nelson did. Why not just finish the season out, even if you aren't likely to play, to support your teammates from the bench?
When Nelson did it I took it as kind of cowardly and abandoning her teammates. Because it's clear to me now that she was one of the 4 or so players who were really disappointed with their experience here. Maybe that's unfair on my part. But Lowary and Finucane at least stuck around until the season was over, even though they now clearly had issues with being back on the team next year and have moved on. And Lowary, I've always said, was just a warrior for Mizzou as long as she played here, and particularly in the 2016 postseason, and deserves credit for that. She doesn't deserve the hate she got from a few people here.
Walters? I have no idea why she left with only a few games to go, and didn't finish out the season. And unless you know her personally you don't either. Only she can answer that. She's a 19-20 year old kid. I raised a daughter who somehow survived those turbulent teenage and young adult years and it's always complicated. But I take her, and her family, at their word, that she was not involved at all in the revolt against EE by a few players, that she left the program in good standing, and that she cherished her experience in the Mizzou softball program and appreciates the coaching staff and the opportunities she got from them, including EE.
Can't we just leave it with that and move on?
We seriously need to have a few beers together, I can tell you really care about the softball program as much as I do.
