Team/coaches he would not have done this. As a counselor your assumptions are inaccurate in many cases. Young men, particularly those from a single parent background, regardless on their support system may deliberately make poor choices.
You cannot judge a support system , particularly one that has been in place for ages 18-22, based upon their actions. If so the inverse would be argued that individuals who do not commit crime and have no support system are products of their support system. Adult Support systems are like supplements. They can help greatly, but are not the primary factor of adult behavior.
Finally it could just as hypothetically be said that if Walters did not have the current strong support system in place he would already be in jail for violent crime committed years ago. One will never know the impact a support system makes.
