Chris Gervino, sports director at KOMU, said this: 'Missouris Title IX investigation into softball coach EE is complete. I'm told no violations. No word from MU yet on his future.'
Blake Toppmeyer, Columbia Tribune, quoted assistant AD Tim Hickman as saying a report is imminent and they will be making a decision in a few days regarding EEs future at Mizzou.
Various other 'sources' of unknown credibility saying EE will be retained. But the best sources IMO are saying no Title IX violations (which of course is huge for EE), not necessarily that he is returning, and the athletic department is saying there have been no discussions with EE yet but a final decision will be made this week, in a few days.
I'm not clear if some of the players are reacting to the news about the Title IX part of the investigation coming out well for EE, or if they have inside knowledge that he will be retained. It could be the former and not necessarily the latter, yet. There should be a distinction made here.
Clearly it appears EE may survive but I'm holding my breath until it is formally announced. But at what cost? Mack clearly wanted him fired, his behavior, what he said, and didn't say during the review/investigation was telling. Perhaps with him gone the air went out of that effort, with no one in a position of authority to champion his cause. The damage assessment may take years to truly assess. The team is crippled going into 2017 in the one area that is required to be an elite team, pitching, and will rely on an unproved freshman to be the ace, and stay healthy. The good news is we should hold on to the incoming freshmen class, which is again outstanding. The unknown is whether EE will be able to sustain his top level recruiting in the wake of this mess.
