play an exciting brand of basketball. It's beyond me why he never figured that out. If you're going to win 10 games a year, you might as well try to score 90 points a game doing it.

And yes; I believe he knew before each season he'd only win about ten games; including this one. So why not be entertaining and fun to watch. Scoring 60 points a game isn't either.
