Not anymore.
Time was, Delany wanted a marquee name. It was an ego play. Nebraska was available and right next to Iowa. He got what he wanted. The metrics are driving decisions now. Otherwise, how do you explain that juggernaut addition of Rutgers? Eyeballs in a new area for the conference drives conference network revenues, which is where the growth plate for any conference resides.
OU didn't fit the Big 10 footprint and at this point would cost conferences money to add them. Which conference needs a marquee name to inflate their conference at this point? PAC doesn't. ACC doesn't. Big 10 doesn't. The SEC sure as heck doesn't. The only conference that needs an add like that is, you guessed it, the Big 12. The problem is, nobody else decent will touch them with a ten foot pole and Texas doesn't want a new team anyway. It would weaken their dictatorship position.
