about one thing only, TV footprint. They have to add good sized markets and here is the key, outside their current footprint.
TCU and WV were panic moves. Both are decent athletic departments but both are bleeding money from the conference. WV was like adding another Iowa or Kansas to the conference. It brought no meaniful TV markets. TCU was even worse because they come from a market already owned by the B12.
Here are the schools that make sense for the B12. Memphis, solid program good sized market and it nips into SEC territory. Cincinnatti for the exact same reasons but B10 territory. One of the Florida schools, not FSU, try to keep it real. Either Boise or BYU neither has a great market but both open up the west.
If the b12 were to add all four of those they would go from the most regional conference to the most national in one move and the would have a toe in the territory of every other power conference.
