open for a bit. I see a lot of people more knowledgeable than myself that say that the worst pour from a bottle is always the very first one after opening.

Now, that can reach a point where its not true anymore. Once a bottle is like 1/3 full it should probably be finished quickly, it'll oxidize too fast at that point with so little liquid in the bottle.
