US consumers spent $2.6 trillion on food in 2023 of that $194 billion (in retail cost) was imported = 7.5%.
Now, let's say that import cost goes up 20% due to tariffs. That takes that imported cost to $234 billion a $40 billion increase in imported goods which is 1.5% increase of the $2.6 trillion to $2.64 trillion.
