Labeling people as illegals is an attack on their personhood and an attempt to legitimize state control. It attempts to create a national narrative of cohesion that excludes the “other”. It denies this “other” economic agency, and restricts voluntary association the “other” and of employers and property owners.

It brainwashes people into accepting state violence as necessary response against perceived threats from these “others”. It re-enforces the state’s claim of over who belongs. It perpetuates embedding violence into the identity of the state.
