I disagree, at least in part & in theory.

They did have some like that not all that long ago, but their most extreme radicals ran them out or the elite decision makers in the party (&/or their puppetmasters) made it impossible for them to win the primaries.

The bottom line is that the powers that be were going to make damned sure that no one could win the Democratic nomination unless they were corrupt or unless the puppet masters had enough blackmail evidence against them to make them dance to their tunes.
