Veneer theory suggests that human morality and civilization are merely a thin layer, a "veneer," covering our true, selfish and brutish nature. It posits that when this veneer is stripped away, perhaps during times of crisis or upheaval, our true selves, driven by self-interest and aggression, emerge.

Or do you believe most Americans are good hearted, caring, and genuine people that want to help others and their neighbors?
