They're trying to figure ANY future scenario in which major conferences don't look around a few years from now and ask each other, "what's the point of staying affilated with the NCAA?"
The NCAA has no clue how or why they're needed in this new landscape. They're hoping this arrangement buys them a few years to figure that out.
Revenue sharing won't last long before it gives way to something else. The NCAA in its current form probably won't either.
