financially for some but at the time you didn't know any different. Nearly everything else was miles better, especially for kids. Everyone played all over the neighborhood with friends all day. Riding bikes. Playing basketball and baseball. We had a concrete court. Dad also put up a backstop in the field across the road. Hours were spent playing on both. Swimming and fishing in the creek. We used to "race" cans down the creek. You could throw a rock at it if it got stuck to try to get it going again but couldn't touch it. Stupid stuff like that which kept us entertained and out of trouble. Parents didn't know exactly where you were but knew you were somewhere in the area and could find you if they really needed to. None of that happens today. I'm sure kids today think this is the greatest time. But I wouldn't trade with them for a million bucks.
