So in fact, Norm did know (or should have known, unless he was retarded) that the goal was to do what John Wooden was doing at UCLA – winning national titles.
So your excuse of "There was no such thing as a final four until the late 1970's, it was not a tangible thing to aspire towards" is utterly ridiculous.
The national semifinals were literally the final four teams, and you had to get there to win the national title. Norm never could.
You're obviously making excuses to defend Norm's legacy. He was a good coach, just not a Final Four caliber coach. It's okay to admit that.
