during the earlier years of Norm's tenure?

IIRC, your excuse for Norm is that the semifinal round between the final 4 teams wasn't officially marketed as "The Final Four" and therefore, Norm didn't care about advancing to that round in the tournament.

Is that the gist of it?

There's got to be some nuance I'm missing, cuz otherwise it's the dumbest reasoning I've ever heard.
