That in theory, switching everything eliminates the need for any help defense. Yeah, guys are going to get beat sometimes and you want some help but if you are switching everything, there should be no delay or separation created by screening that allows guys to get that advantage that you must help over to close off until the defender can recover.
Then our switching got out of sync and we were leaving guys open and then we were helping and getting all twisted around and leaving people wide open.
It honestly looked like we never practice help defense because of the theory of the switching means we don’t need help defense. Yet we found ourselves out of position and beaten.
Steals and transition are exciting, but I prefer good fundamental defense first, and then if you can get some action off of that, great. But you better play good basic lockdown defense first.
