On top of what's stated above there were NCAA sanctions with a postseason ban and recruiting and scholarship restrictions. Plus some of the best players transferred, lost key recruits (Williams to NW) and was blocked from getting an top-notch pitcher (who ended up at Bama)
Not that this excuses this season. Disagree with the statement below that LA gets a 'mulligan' for this season. Yes I expected a slight drop-off with losing Krings, Laird, Honnold, but not this much. That's why you have the transfer portal! There shouldn't be 'rebuilding' type seasons now with college free agency with the exception of a popular coach leaving and pretty much the entire roster transfers
