probably was a pretty solid X's and O's guy. Didn't work out so well. Quin Snyder was anything but politically correct though that was in 1998. Ironically, Kim Anderson was the politically correct hire in 1998 as I'm sure you'd recall. Self had been coaching and was much more of a known quantity than Snyder was at the time. Sampson and Calipari, yep, you nailed it.
Not sure that it's solid reasoning to link coaching hires over the last quarter century plus to an overarching university organizational plan. Much has changed both within and outside the university in that long a time period.
The reality of it is, the x's and o's should not be all that difficult (and probably isn't) for *any* coach we're considering.
