hands-off, player-delegated 'buddy' approach to coaching.

It's fine when the pressure is off, but it rarely works when the pressure is on.

If you have to recruit kids that have to be coddled instead of coached, don't plan on winning tough games.

So if losing a single game in the tourney is 'the third highest since Norm' or whatever, if that's good enough, then we're good.

If the majority of the fanbase want to go higher, they'll have to be some big changes to get there.
