Opposing coaches are animated on the sidelines, busy working the refs and keeping their players motivated.
Gates doesn't do that. He's like a statue during the games, consistently getting out-worked and out-hustled by his peers. It puts the team at a major disadvantage for both defense and officiating, as we've seen time and time again.
However, there's good news...
The national stage and high stakes of the NCAA Tournament will likely provide extra motivation that ratchets up our intensity on the defensive end, thereby compensating for Gates' lack of motivational skills.
For this reason, I think the team could make a deeper run than currently expected. If Mitchell is 100% and the team gets a 5 or 6 seed – like it deserves – I'd be surprised if it doesn't reach *at least* the Sweet 16.
