The history of the last 30 years says the United States went back on its word 3 times regarding NATO not expanding eastward. Also the US organized a coup in 2014 over a democratically elected government in Ukraine that wanted to remain neutral.

Don't take my word for it. Read the history you reference. The US is not the good guy in this story.
